First Quarter

Busy little bees we've been! On January 4, Cottrell officially acquired A&J Technologies Telephone Division, generating 700+ new customers and 5 new employees. It also meant A LOT of database updating and marketing to the new customers.

In addition to the acquisition, Cottrell also started using new internal software in March. This will make us more efficient to your needs as well as new marketing campaigns via email and customer updates readily available.

To top it all off--yes, there's more!--we also installed the new NEC SV8100 system in our building. Representing the other side of the NEC house that we had been using, the SV8100 is similar yet so much better to look at, with sleek design features and a better layout. You can find more information about the SV8100 and its enhancements in our products and services section.

And due to the weather finally improving--such a long cold winter should never happen again--you can probably find a few of us on the golf courses. If you've ever come into our building, you've seen the immense trophies upon arrival, and there should be more to add this year.

We’ve had our first light snow flurries, and Black Friday has passed, America is bustlin’ and hustlin’ getting ready for the upcoming Holidays. We always enjoy a potluck Thanksgiving Luncheon and a company provided lunch for Winter Holidays. It’s one of the things, a couple, (well maybe just me!) always look forward to—spending time with the Cottrell Family. We’d like to wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season.

NOVEMBER, 2009
As the holidays approach, along with other factors, many people will be in and out of the office. One quick way to make sure you’re efficient with your customers is to enable call forwarding or ringing call coverage on your NEC phones. With call forwarding, you can forward the missing person’s calls to another extension, or to a number outside of the office (cell phones). With ringing call coverage, you can program a hotkey on your telephone that lets you know when another extensions phone is ringing. For more information, give us a call and we can walk you through!


OCTOBER, 2009

We have had a lot of interest in our available headsets lately. We offer 4 different headsets for both the NEC and Cisco systems. Headsets vary in price range and functionality, and yes, we do carry Bluetooth varieties. If you’re interested in getting more information on headsets please don’t hesitate to contact Katie:

Holy Demo’s batman! If you weren’t aware, Cottrell has a fully equipped conference room to demonstrate the effectiveness of the systems we offer. Both NEC and Cisco Systems are regularly set up and we highly encourage any and all customers to take a look at the new systems gidgets and gadgets. We especially enjoy the Cisco Ringtones!

Dog Days of Summer if we do say so ourselves! It’s hot outside and it’s hot inside—it’s hot everywhere!! Our new sales have been pretty steamy, too—it’s a refreshing glass of lemonade in this economy, that’s for sure. Cottrell has decided to participate in the Lamb’s Basket Food Drive via Alphagraphics (a new member of the Cottrell Fam!)—at the month’s end, we gave a heaping box filled with non perishables (including some tasty cups’o’noodles!) to families in need in the surrounding areas, especially that of Henrico County. 

JUNE, 2009
Ahh, summertime! It’s the start of summer vacations, tanned skin and enjoyable weekend stories. The kids are out of school enjoying themselves and vegetables are sprouting from gardens. And yes, we have to admit, like most businesses, it slows down a bit around here throughout the summer. Looking forward to our vacations and memory making this summer—especially the pictures we rotate of the Cottrell Employee children at the beach!

As a twenty six year old company, we've seen a lot in our days. While competitors have come and gone, Cottrell has adjusted and adapted to the changes in technology, embracing it and providing it to Central Virginia businesses. And as new media and web 2.0 progresses, we're also welcoming it with welcome arms.

Throughout its history, Cottrell has provided customer’s affordable Maintenance Agreements to continuously protect their investments. As a precaution with the downturn of the economy, Cottrell has reinvented its Maintenance options. Offering three levels of coverage, based on a percentage of equipment cost, Cottrell has formulated a tier system to allow comfort and custom-made protection plans easily obtainable and affordable.

The economy isn’t making life easy for anyone and Cottrell realizes this notion. Over our tenure, we’ve gone through similar times and adjusted, reacted and pulled through--just as we will during this downturn. We know that times are tough for all, and that’s one of the reasons Cottrell offers options to customers both new and old. Offering lease options and easy payment plans with grow able hybrid NEC systems, as well as innovative Cisco Networks; Cottrell has laid out alternatives for all companies, no matter how the economy has affected business. For current customers, adjustable systems allow easy Moves, Adds and Changes with a simple telephone call or email to our office. Cottrell has sustained tough economic times before and solidly stood by our customer base, we don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

Celebrating our 25th year in business, we have carved out a niche for ourselves in the Richmond telecommunications market.

We are a local company with local ownership based in Richmond since 1983, and we see our future success dependant on the accurate definition of customers’ needs, adhering to specific requests and tailoring individual proposals. Working with the same industry leading manufacturer for 25 years, we have a thorough understanding of the products that are offered from NEC America.  We continuously educate our technicians so they remain experts in their field. To make sure that outstanding service remains top priority, we have a complete stock of replacement parts in our warehouse, assuring that customers will experience the least possible inconvenience.

As the market has changed, we have invested in our people and resources to become a full IT services company as well as providing telephony solutions.  Our recent employee additions include those with CCNP, MCSE and CISSP certifications. With our offering of data and networking systems, we will be implementing the same business model that has sustained Cottrell Communications in our first 25 years. We offer the internal and external office technology and computer needs necessary for full functioning communication.
